UDIA welcomes Budget in Reply announcement on infrastructure investment, expanded apprenticeships and greater home ownership

Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) welcomes the Leader of the Opposition’s Budget announcement including $5bn in enabling infrastructure for housing.

“The Coalition’s commitment to infrastructure, expanded apprenticeships and greater access to homeownership measures, will drive the productivity we need to build more homes,” said Col Dutton, UDIA National President.

The Coalition budget initiatives include core UDIA advocacy asks, including $5bn billion enabling infrastructure funding for housing, prioritising construction apprenticeships by providing access to employer incentives for more jobs, further support to first home buyers through access to their super for home deposits.

“These Coalition announcements are vitally important given commencements are the lowest since 2012 and we need extensive measures now to drastically increase housing delivery, including upfront incentives to build median priced housing, halve approval times and increase density bonuses,” said Col Dutton.

“UDIA looks forward to working with the political leadership to implement these proposed initiatives, particularly those that have the potential to accelerate the delivery of all types of housing,” said Col Dutton.
