Federal Election 2025 Commitments

Urban Development Institute of Australia will be providing information on each political party’s Federal Election Commitments when they are announced.

LABOR

Overview:

Announcement: Continue the largest house build in Australian history, building 1.2 million homes in five years.

$49.3 million to state and territory governments for investment in local prefabricated and modular home construction.

Overview:
Boost the Help to Buy scheme by increasing income caps from $90,000 to $100,000 for individuals and from $120,000 to $160,000 for joint applicants and single parents. Property price caps will also be increased and linked with the average house price in each state and territory, not dwelling price, so first home buyers have more choice.

Superannuation to unlock housing for first home buyers and older women to overcome the prohibitive challenge of saving for a home deposit by allowing superannuation savings to be used to help build their deposit. Australians will access up to $50,000 from their super to buy their first home. The money initially withdrawn from super will need to be returned when the house is sold to support retirement.
