UDIA Stands Ready to Work with Federal Cabinet Ministers to Address the Housing Crisis

In responding to Sunday’s announcement by the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the reshuffle of senior Federal Cabinet Ministers, Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) welcomes the Government’s new Ministry.

“We congratulate the Hon Clare O’Neil MP on her appointment as Minister for Housing and Minister for Homelessness and look forward to working with the Minister to bolster housing affordability in the coming months,” said Col Dutton, UDIA National President.

UDIA thanks the Hon Julie Collins MP for her commitment to our industry over the past years in her portfolios as Minister for Housing and Minister for Homelessness and particularly her tireless work to build the first steps of a framework to boost housing supply and set in place Australia’s first national housing targets.

“In what was one of the most challenging periods for both the development industry and the homeowners of Australia, the policies instigated by Minister Collins have made a significant and positive impact for those seeking to get onto the property ladder,” said Col Dutton.

Our industry also welcomes the new Ministry including Senator Murray Watt,  Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Tony Burke as Minister for Immigration and the Hon Andrew Giles as Minister for Skills and Training.

Skilled migration – particularly those with specific construction skills and experience- is a key issue that must be addressed if we are to rebuild the workforce to successfully address the current housing supply crisis.

“There is much work to be done and UDIA and our members are ready to work with the Ministers in their new portfolios, so that together we can find ways that enable more Australians to secure a home of their own,” said Col Dutton.
