Housing supply and affordability is about to go under the spotlight with a new Federal inquiry. A Parliamentary Committee has commissioned a new review of the tax and regulatory settings on housing supply in Australia. It’s a welcome opportunity to push for meaningful reform of broken tax and planning systems, and fix the affordability woes facing homebuyers.
UDIA National has long advocated that the percentage of direct and indirect taxes that contribute to the cost of a new dwelling are at unsustainable levels in addition to inefficient planning systems and regulatory processes imposed on our industry that stifle supply.
UDIA have already begun our engagement process and will be active participants in this inquiry.
