In early January, UDIA National lodged a Pre-Budget Submission to the Federal Assistant Treasurer, Minster for Finance which expressed our strong support of Federal Government’s initiatives which are intended to bolster home ownership and deliver more affordable and social housing, whilst also recognising the critical role the housing development sector plays in Australia’s economic success.
UDIA National acknowledged that delivering these initiatives for any category of housing, will require robust development-ready land supply, a vibrant skilled labour force, ready access to investment capital, growth in population for economic prosperity and productivity, efficient planning and environmental systems as well as timely enabling/major infrastructure.
However, we noted that many of these necessary fundamental market components have experienced steady decline over past decades which are impacting housing affordability and jeopardising Government Initiatives.
