UDIA report identifies obstacles preventing the 400,000 new homes needed to meet Housing Accord

Today’s release of the UDIA National Housing Pipeline® (NHP) Report identifies the impediments that must be overcome to deliver 400,000 homes that will be needed to meet the government’s ambitious National Housing Accord target of 1.2m dwellings over the next 5 years.  

Greater Sydney is at the centre of the national housing crisis with an approximate 150,000 dwellings shortfall. The report sounds an alarm for future housing affordability with each of the major capital cities set to record significant undersupply to their housing markets, which unless acted upon, potentially locks out thousands of Australians from entering the housing market.

The UDIA National Housing Pipeline® reveals development constraints that are limiting the pipeline for new house and land releases. The major impediments include missing enabling infrastructure, a backlog in planning, environmental or heritage approvals, zoning, and a myriad other factors including gaps in both data and knowledge by key decision makers.
